Are you nervous or scared to go to Pelvic PT??

A few of my recent patients told me that they were SUPER nervous to come to Pelvic PT because they had NO idea what we were going to do or talk about.


Many are fearful of what is included in the examination of the pelvic area, but honestly a good evaluation of pelvic floor symptoms involves MUCH more than checking out the pelvic floor muscles. 


Other areas of our bodies have direct and indirect influence on the pelvic floor muscles and pelvis, so I often ask LOTS of questions (and yes, we will talk about poop!) and assess many different areas.


Everything is connected -- let's actually FIX the problem vs just putting a bandaid on the symptoms.


I assure you that patients leave their first visit feeling reassured that they are in the right place and that there is hope for change in their leaking, pain, pressure or weakness issues.



Your 1st visit to Pelvic PT will often include us evaluating:

  • Pelvic Floor Muscle Strength & Coordination

  • Abdominal/Core Muscles Strength & Coordination

  • Diastasis Recti Assessment

  • Hip Muscles

  • Mobility & Flexibility from your neck to your toes!

  • Sitting and Standing postures

  • Vaginal Scars (from delivery or surgery)

  • Abdominal &/or C-Section Scars

  • Breathing (because YES breathing is necessary to help improve your pelvic floor!)

  • Walking and/or running analysis

  • Jumping Strategies

  • Lifting Techniques (whether you are lifting groceries or 50# dumbbell)

  • And many other things!



Issues that have contributed to patient's pelvic floor symptoms:

  • abdominal scars

  • limited ankle motion

  • ACL surgery or previous hip/knee/ankle surgery

  • back tightness

  • tight hips

  • toe pain

  • neck pain

Remember that there are often super, simple things that can greatly improve your pelvic symptoms, so that you are no longer afraid to leave the house, jumping on a trampoline or head to that new exercise class without fear of leaking, pain or making your symptoms worse, I promise! 💜
